QCPC Board Minutes, August 7, 2017

QCPC Board Meeting Minutes
Aug 7, 2017 - 1 pm, Kino Conference Room

Present:  Board Members Jean Bustard, John Hughes, Sandy Veydt, Ruth Maki; and Court Committee Chair Jeanne Iannacchino.
Absent:  Board Members Karen Morse, Susan Jones, Linda von Felden

1.      Call to order:  1:00 by President Jean Bustard.
2.      Previous meeting minutes were unanimously approved.

3.      Treasurer’s Report (Karen Morse, given by Jean Bustard)- Our only expense for July was $157.58 for pickleballs.  We have $13,053.08 in our bank account.

4.      Committee Reports
a.       Membership (Jean Bustard for Susan Jones)- A few new members have joined this summer. We have a total of 311 members.  As of July 1, new members pay $10 for the remainder of the year.
b.      Communications/Website (Ruth Maki)- The website has been updated for August. A newsletter will go out on Tuesday including items from this Board meeting.
c.       Court Management (Jeannie Iannacchino)- There is a new Facilities Manager for Quail Creek.  Jeanne will make contact with him.  The POA will paint the lights that are peeling and will put electrical in our shed.  Rob cleans courts and empties trash; Jeanne will speak with him about keeping the courts clean.
d.      Socials (Sandy Veydt)- Nothing right now.
e.       Player Development and Organized Play Committee-  As a board, we agreed to form a new committee called “Player Development and Organized Play Committee”.  Its purpose is to organize player development classes and Club Sanctioned play on our courts.  A better description of this new committee will be drafted for inclusion in our Policies & Procedures Manual and the website.  Karen Morse will be the committee chair.

We want this committee to be made up of 3 or 4 people, not a single person.  Jean will help with this to get a group of instructors who can teach players.  Karen will recruit volunteers to serve on this committee.

Karen will resign as Treasurer and Cheryl Francis  will be appointed to complete her term.  Cheryl will become a QCPC Board Member when she takes over as Treasurer.

Jean proposed that the Club provide balls for use in player development drills.  We have been using Pure 2 balls, but these will not be legal in tournaments as of January, 2018.  Pure 2 balls are good for the Club because they last a long time, but they become less bouncy with age.  It would be nice to have balls available for Player Development, as well as for baskets kept in our storage chest.  Because Pure 2s may not be available in the future, we will buy 300 Pure 2 balls to use for Player Development as well as for Club Play.

Lisa Palcic and her doubles partner (excellent pickleball teachers with Pickleball Edge) may be here in November before USAPA Nationals in Casa Grande.  We would like them to come in and teach.  Members would participate with them in Clinics.  Lisa is a certified rater and would be willing to rate people at a small cost to the player.  We are waiting for confirmation from them.

Quail Creek Saddlebrook Ranch Invitational Tournament- They are still working on details of format.  There will be 2.5, 3.0, and 3.5 for Men’s, Women’s and Mixed.  3-4 teams from Quail Creek and from Saddlebrook Ranch would participate.  We would go there on Oct. 25.  A preliminary announcement about this will be included in the newsletter with more details to follow.

We have many tournaments coming.  Tournament schedule is as follows:
Quail-Creek Saddlebrook Invitational, October 25 (at Saddlebrook Ranch)
Blind Date Tournament- November 11-12
Firefighters Tournament, Feb. 2-3 with Feb. 4 as rain date.
Senior Games, March 6-8
Quail Creek Classic, March 24-25

For these tournaments, the Club approves use of and provides the courts.  Otherwise, the organizers are responsible for the tournaments.

Balls for Blind Date Tournament- we will provide balls for this tournament since this is a fund-raiser for local charities.

5.      Date and time of next board meeting – October 2, 2017 @ 1:00 pm
6.      Other Business-  A concern has been expressed about use of a non-Club owned ball machine in Club sanctioned drills.  Jean noted that our normal waiver should cover injuries that involve the ball machine during club sanctioned classes.

Shall we buy a ball caddy for use by instructors and in drills.  We have saved money on balls this year so we have some money to spend.  We also would like a new bulletin board to go above the drinking fountain.  The Board agreed with these expenditures.
7.      Formal Board Meeting was adjourned at 2:22 PM.

[CB1]Keeping courts open was just a comment from me.  I rather not include it. Thx
