QCPC Board Minutes, September 16, 2016



QCPC BOARD OF DIRECTORS MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 16, 2016


The meeting was called to order by the President at 1:26 p.m.  Present were board members David Kikel, JoAnna Kikel, Pam Martin, John Hughes, Marie Still, Rich Pokorski and guests Lenny Friedman, Linda von Feldman, Sandy Veydt, Larry Hyde, Ron Grantz, Donna Hoshide, Susie Eckhardt and Andy Eckhardt.  Board member Ruth Maki was absent.

The previous Minutes were presented and approved.

The Treasurer’s Report was presented and approved. 

Committee Reports

Membership.  Marie Still advised that to date the club has 313 paid members, with 105 of those being new.  A beginner’s class was held by Lenny Friedman which provided 18 of the new members.

Communication.  JoAnna advised that the newsletter would be published tonight.  She is waiting the hear from the website designer prior to paying the bill.

Court Management  Rich Pokorski sent an e-mail to Mike Taylor regarding the low water pressure in the ramada bathrooms.  Mike Taylor advised it has been fixed.  Rich has sprayed several ant hills and told AAA Landscaping about the spiders in the ball holders and requested care of the plants and pruning of plants around the courts.

Rich will not be in Quail Creek during October and most of November.  He anticipates returning at Thanksgiving.

Rich will contact Debbie Downes to obtain Joey’s phone number regarding Onyx balls. It was generally agreed that we would use up all of our Onyx 503 balls before we order any of the new Onyx Pure 2 balls. The 503's are USAPA approved and are an excellent ball. When we get down to a half of a box of the 503's we can order the Pure 2's.

Plans for Fall Play.  Linda von Feldman and Susie Eckhardt informed the board that assisted play is to start September 12,  on courts 2, 3 and 4.  Assisted play will be held on Monday and Thursday from 7:00 – 8:00 a.m.

Round robin play is to start o Wednesday, October 5.

Saturday advance play is continuing on courts 1 – 4 through September.  Advance play will continue if someone takes over during Rich and Cindy’s absence.

Capital improvements.  David Kikel advised there was nothing new to report.

Backboard.  Sandy Veydt reported commercially available backboards are 8’ tall and 12’ wide with an uninstalled cost of $1,885.98, including shipping.   Sandy will provide the information to David who will then contact Mike Taylor for presentation to Robson and the POA.

Future events.  The only social event scheduled is in December.  Any more events will be determined.

Rich and Cindy Pokorski  advised that due to the lack of participation, the Robson monthly inter-community league play is that it will go forward without Quail Creek.   Rich and Cindy have stepped down as the QCPC coordinators to this league.  QCPC is welcome to join the league after new coordinators are found.

Outsider Instruction on 11/18  Lenny Friedman advised that this is up in the air for the moment.  The instructor requires 32 people in the 2.5 to 3.5 range.  Lenny requested board approval and support.  Jo Anna Kikel made a motion to support the clinic.  Marie Still seconded the motion.  The board approved the motion.  Lenny will approach Mike Taytlor for POA approval and confirmation of what, if any, fee will be charged to the instructor.

Nominating Committee.  The following were presented to the board to serve on the nominating committee:  Linda von Feldman, Sandy Veydt, Debbie Downes and Jo Anna Kikel.  Jo Anna made a motion to accept the committee as presented.  Marie Still seconded the motion.  The motion was passed.

New Business  Attending members advised the board that the benches next to the courts are always covered with player’s backpacks, jackets, etc.  It was requested that a notice be included in the newsletter stating that “benches are for butts”.

Date and Time of Next Board Meeting .  The next board meeting will be held on October 10, 2016, beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Kino Conference Room.

A motion to end the meeting was made and seconded and the President closed the meeting at 2:46 p.m.
